FRIDAY NIGHT

Join us on a Friday Night for a rousing “Carlebach” style service, Prayers are often led by a local melodious Chazan. (Cantor). The cosy, warm, friendly Service is held in the Beit Hamidrash. SWHC are joined by the several local Chassidim enhancing the atmosphere. For times, please see the weekly Newsletter.

SHABBAT MORNING

service begins at 9:30am and is held in the Main Shul. The shul was built in 1968 using funds raised from The Community. The service can be a lively affair with modern traditional tunes when the Chazan gets everyone joining in. We have talented homegrown lay leaders who all play their part in leading the services.

We have an occasional “Kids” Service on every significant Shabbat starting at 11am with a yummy-scrummy Kids themed Kiddush around Yom Tov time!

Throughout the year there are special Shabbatot, e.g. AJEX, CST, Shabbat UK and Shabbat Chanukah; Israel related etc. are a few that take place. At the end of the service there is always a lovely Kiddush prepared by our Ladies Guild to which everyone is invited. There is also the occasional sit-down” kiddush or a Themed Kiddush, and sometimes we have special “Cholent and Kugel.”

BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES (Or other Simcha!)

The wardens organise many Simchas in shul. We would love to include your family simcha within our Shul service and celebrate with you, together with your family and friends. All families celebrating receive a “personal” touch. On Shabbat Day, we recite a personal well-being blessing for you. The ladies Guild can cater for your personal requirements. Festival Services are held every day on every Yom Tovim

Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur

The Shul is full as family and friends come and visit us for the New Year and hear the sound of the shofar.. Assisting the Rabbi, either homegrown talent or a visiting Chazan. On Rosh Hashanah, we have a communal Tashlich service by the sea which is only a 10 minute walk from Shul. On Yom Kippur the programme includes Ladies lively talks and discussions on Jewish-related topics for women of all ages. Prior to Rosh Hashanah the Torah mantels and curtains are changed over to the whites and the Ladies Guild clean all the silverware.

Succot

There are Sukkot services every day. Our Kiddushim moves to our large Sukkah. the Shul Sukkah is decorated by our Ladies Guild. On Chol Hamoed, every year there is the Simchat Beit HaShoeva party with entertainment.

Shemini Atzeret/Simchat Torah

On Shemini Atzeret (the 8th day!) after the service there is the last kiddush in the Sukkot for the year.

We choose Chatan Torah and Chatan Bereishit, and Lady of the year. On Simchat Torah evening and morning we dance with the Torah in high spirits. On Simchat Torah day we have an honorary Brunch to pay tribute to our honorees.

Chanukah

Every year since 2004 we have lit the giant Public Menorah in front of large crowds near o the Cliff`s Pavilion. Gala Night is very popular, held on the Synagogue site, on one of the nights of Chanukah. This communal event is for all after the lighting. Always in the company of dignitaries and donuts.

Purim

The evening of Purim is celebrated with the reading Megilah Esther. A Purim party and Fancy Dress Fashion Parade for those who are in costume (both grown-ups and children!) with prizes awarded. Afterwards there is a buffet for all. The Megillah is read again during the Shacharit morning service on Purim Day.

Pesach

For Pesach the on site Kosher Supermarket is packed with all you need for a kosher Pesach! You can pre-order everything you need. There is usually a Communal Seder on the 2nd night of Pesach. The Ladies Guild make up free Pesach parcels for those who are unable to get their own Pesach groceries. There are synagogue services every day of Yom Tov.

Yom Hashaoah / Yom Hazikaron / Yom Ha’atzmaut

These important days in the calendar are marked in Synagogue with an evening of reflection. On Yom Ha`atzmaut we have an evening of musical entertainment with special guests.

Shavuot

For Shavuot the Shul is beautifully decorated by our wonderful Ladies Guild who prepare a cheesecake and ice cream kiddush.

The Beit Hamedrash

Refurbished after Covid, the air-conditioned Beis Hamedrash is in the main Shul building at the top of the stairs! It is where the Daily Minyan takes place, also the venue for the Kids Service, and various learning sessions. It can also double as a function room and can hold 50 sat in round tables. Family simchas have been held here.

The room also houses the library.
