The SWHC Cheder, is led by Headteacher Rebbetzin Chaya Faigie Bar.

The children are given a solid grounding in Judaism, beginning with learning to read and write Hebrew.  The Aleph Champ course is used.  They also learn a varied programme of religious, social and historical Jewish matters.  Themes include Davening, Shul, Yom Tov (as each festival comes around in the year), Matzah/Hamentashen/Challah Baking, Succah Decorating, Clay Chanukiah Making and so much more.

Children from the age of 5 to 13 are welcome.  Cheder is from 4:45pm – 6:15pm on Tuesday evenings with a free snack from 4:30pm.  Cheder takes place in our well-equipped Talmud Torah building and the children take local trips to learn more about Jewish life in Southend.

Rabbi Bar teaches the Bar Mitzvah boys and a Bat Mitzvah programme with Rebbetzin Bar is available too.

Cheder and Bar Mitzvah classes are free for members of the SWHC, but non-members are very welcome as well.
